Joshua R. Brown ![]() Joshua R. Brown is associate professor of German and linguistics at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire. He received his PhD in Germanic linguistics from Penn State University. He researches the interaction of language and identity as well as historical ego-documents among the Pennsylvania Dutch, both sectarian (Amish, Mennonites, Hutterites) and non-sectarian groups. Brown has authored several journal articles and authored and edited books on the Pennsylvania Dutch, including a textbook and most recently an edited volume "Pennsylvania German: An Interpretive Encyclopedia" (Johns Hopkins Press).
