Dr. Frank Dhont, International indonesia Forum
Don Emmerson has lived and traveled in Indonesia as a professor (Stanford, Wisconsin) and a student (Yale). He recently keynoted the inaugural AIFIS-MSU Conference on Indonesian Studies and wrote “Good News for Indonesian Studies” (Jakarta Post). But he does not claim to be an expert on Indonesia, for there is too much about that large, complex, and fascinating country that he does not know.
In his talk, the keynote address for the 14th International Indonesia Forum Conference, Prof. Emmerson hopes to interpret two terms and apply them to Indonesia’s current position in the world. New meanings of “globalization,” he will argue, are changing in ways that will affect, and be affected by, Indonesia’s interactively foreign and domestic—“intermestic”—relations.
The 14th International Indonesia Forum Conference: Resolve and Perseverance will be virtually hosted by Universitas Katolik Santo Thomas in Medan, Indonesia; National Cheng Kung University, Taiwan; and Wenzao Ursuline University of Languages, Taiwan where the physical component will take place (https://iif.or.id/).
