Call for Nominations - Filipino Studies Honors and Awards – 2020

 

The Filipino section of the Association for Asian American Studies invites nominations (including self-nominations) for the Filipino Honors and Awards, which support and recognize the most outstanding, unique, and impactful contributions to Filipino Studies, broadly construed.

 

The awards include a certificate and recognition at the annual Filipino section meeting at the Association for Asian American Studies Conference in April 2020. All are eligible, regardless of affiliation or rank, but awardees must be a current member of the Association for Asian American Studies by the conference. These awards are administered expressly by the Filipino section and not the Association for Asian American Studies.

 

The deadline for receipt of materials is 11:59pm PST on January 15, 2020.

 

The Filipino Honors

The Filipino section of the Association for Asian American Studies invites nominations for the Filipino Honors: Lifetime Achievement Award, Early Career Award, Mid-Career Award, Independent Scholar/Contingent/Community College Faculty Award, Excellence in Mentoring Award, Scholar Activist Award, Community Organization Award. Awards of Distinction

The Filipino section of the Association for Asian American Studies invites nominations for the Awards of Distinction: Teaching Excellence, Engaged Artist, Student Affairs, Community Health, Public Scholarship. These awards support and recognize the most outstanding contributions to Filipino Studies that may be informed but not defined by traditional academic research. Filipino Research Publication Awards - Award for Best Article

The Filipino section of the Association for Asian American Studies invites nominations for the awards for best academic article by scholars who center Filipino Studies published during the period between January 1, 2017 and December 31, 2019. The article must center and deepen analysis of Filipino peoples in challenging white supremacy, colonialism, heteronormative patriarchy, racialized capitalism, and other forms of oppression while contributing theoretical, methodological, and/or activist insights to a still emerging subfield of Filipino Studies within Asian American Studies. Nominations are invited for the following categories: undergraduate, graduate, early career, mid-career, senior scholar. Filipino Research Publication Awards - Best Book Award

The Filipino section of the Association for Asian American Studies invites nominations for the Awards for Best Book, which recognize the most outstanding contributions to the fields of Filipino and/or Asian American studies published by scholars during the period between January 1, 2017 and December 31, 2019. The book must deal with any aspect of Filipino Studies, broadly construed. Nominations are invited for the following categories: Creative writing, Literary Studies, Media, Performance, and Visual Studies, Multidisciplinary/cultural studies, History, Social Sciences, Education, First book publication, Edited Anthology.
