15th Philippine Linguistics Congress (15PLC)

CALL FOR ABSTRACTS

The UP Department of Linguistics, home to the oldest linguistics program in the Philippines, is the premier academic institution that specializes in Philippine Linguistics. The 15th Philippine Linguistics Congress (15PLC) is the centennial conference of the Department, to be held on 23-25 August 2023 at UP Diliman. The conference highlights Philippine linguistics and the state of the art, featuring plenary and invited sessions on the key research areas of the Department: (1) language documentation and description, (2) historical and comparative linguistics, (3) language and culture, (4) Filipino as the national language of the Philippines, and (5) teaching the national languages of Asia. Several pre-conference workshops on methodologies in linguistics and language teaching will also be held on 21-22 August 2023.

We invite junior scholars in the undergraduate (bachelor’s) and graduate (master’s and doctorate) degrees in Linguistics (and its related disciplines in the humanities and social sciences) to submit an abstract for the conference. Considerations are open to topics that intersect with linguistics such as (but not limited to) the following domains:

• Applied Linguistics

• Dialectology

• Foreign language teaching and learning

• Formal and functional approaches to grammar

• Historical linguistics

• Historiography of linguistics

• Intersections of linguistics with other disciplines

• Language documentation and description

• Language planning

• Lexicography and corpus linguistics

SUBMISSION INSTRUCTIONS:

• Abstracts may be in English and Filipino

• Should not exceed 300 words (excluding the title and list of references)

• The name of the author/s must not appear on the abstract

• Include 3-5 keywords

• A maximum of 3 abstracts may be submitted per person, whether as a sole author or co-author
