Call for Papers: Understanding Turkey: Vision, Revision, and the Future
Stanford University, April 28-29, 2017 (Application Deadline: 01/15/17)
The Abbasi Program in Islamic Studies at Stanford University solicits paper submissions for an academic conference entitled “Understanding Turkey: Vision, Revision, and the Future” to be held on April 28-29, 2017. Our aim is to assemble a diverse group of scholars, working across the humanities and the social sciences, who are undertaking research within a broad definition of Turkish Studies. We will privilege proposals that employ innovative analysis over straightforward description.
Please propose papers that fit within one of the following three foci:
- Space: Geography, statist and anti-statist discourses, the environment, politics, visual depiction.
- Narrative: History, historiography, fiction, revision, resistance, alterity.
- Affect and Emotion: Memoir, biography, aesthetic and religious expression and reception.
Please submit a brief paper abstract (250 words) at https://goo.gl/gNfrzr by January 15, 2017. The abstract should provide details regarding both the material/case to be discussed and the methodology. Submissions will be evaluated by an interdisciplinary committee and selected participants will be notified in February 2017. The Abbasi Program in Islamic Studies will cover the travel and lodging expenses for the paper presenters. For further inquiries, please contact Abbasi Program Associate Director Dr. Burcak Keskin-Kozat at email@example.com.
