Postdoctoral research associates for the UKRI-funded project, “Ottoman Auralities and the Eastern Mediterranean: Sound, Media and Power, 1789-1922.” (Cambridge)

The Music Faculty at the University of Cambridge is seeking two postdoctoral research associates for the UKRI-funded project, “Ottoman Auralities and the Eastern Mediterranean: Sound, Media and Power, 1789-1922.” The research associates will propose and carry out their own research project related to the topic. 

 

Some potential areas of project focus might include:

- institutional auditory cultures (government, religion, law, guilds, education, etc)

- sonic techniques of gender/sexuality

- D/deaf culture

- phonography and other technology (including telegraphy, visual media, etc)

- sound and science (physics, acoustics, biology, medicine) in the region

- ecocriticism and sound

- architectural acoustics

 

The positions are funded for two years in the first instance, with a starting date of October 1, 2023, or as soon as possible thereafter.
