The Ottoman Summer School is an intensive six-week program that is designed to improve students’ reading and comprehension skills in Ottoman sources. Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced levels of classes will be offered this year. The Ottoman language courses are complemented by Arabic, Persian and Modern Turkish classes, which are to be taken in line with students’ needs.
The 2023 summer session will be conducted only in-person.
Several of the instructors at the Ottoman Summer School come from the University of Chicago tradition and specialize in teaching Ottoman and Modern Turkish to non-native Turkish speakers. After more than a decade of organizing the intensive summer program at ANAMED, they bring their experience and expertise to santralistanbul Campus of İstanbul Bilgi University. A number of excursions aim to introduce the students to the collections of the Ottoman State Archives and the major manuscript libraries in Istanbul.
