Welcome to H-Music—The Network for Scholars Interested in Music in History!

The gap between the role that music has played (and continues to play) in history and the role it plays in most mainstream historical scholarship continues to be astounding. H-Music is a network devoted to making a contribution to the closing of this gap. We hope to initiate, and provide a forum for, debate between scholars from a range of disciplines interested in this agenda. It is our contention that historians can deepen their understanding of historical, social and cultural contexts by taking music more fully into account while historical musicologists and other scholars from a Cultural Studies background may benefit from a more thorough historical contextualization of music.

H-Music is open to all bona fide scholars working on relevant issues. We encourage scholars interested in our agenda to submit relevant information on ongoing and forthcoming work in the field and suggestions for additional online rubrics.
