The international workshop Jurisdiction(s): Legal and Historical Perspectives, organized by Dr. Alexis Alvarez Nakagawa (CONICET, University of Buenos Aires) and Dr. Jorge Díaz Ceballos (Pablo de Olavide University), will be held on May 27, 2021 at 15:00 (CEST).

The workshop "Jurisdiction(s): legal and historical perspectives" will discuss how the idea of jurisdiction has affected and continues to affect the construction and exercise of political, social and economic power through law and the institutions of justice. The main premise is that the concept of jurisdiction is crucial to understanding how different forms of power are articulated in present and past societies. Participants in this event will discuss how authority and sovereignty are constructed, debated and confronted in historical and present plurijurisdictional scenarios.

The event will focus on jurisdictions in their legal and historical aspects and will feature presentations by Lauren Benton (Yale University), José Miguel Escribano-Páez (Universidad Pablo de Olavide), Alexis Alvarez-Nakagawa (CONICET, Universidad de Buenos Aires), Ian Hathaway (Leibniz-Institut für Europäische Geschichte), Jorge Díaz-Ceballos (Universidad Pablo de Olavide), Viola Müller (Universität Bonn) and Luis Eslava (Kent University). The final reflection and debate will be in charge of Bartolomé Yun Casalilla (Universidad Pablo de Olavide).

The event will consist of an initial introduction and four sessions, followed by a debate.

It will be held online and openly through the Zoom platform, and registration is required.
