The European History Section of the Southern Historical Association invites proposals for individual papers and complete panels for presentation at its annual meeting in Birmingham, AL, November 8-11, 2018.

Papers on any aspect in any period of European history, or European history in comparative or global context are welcome. The program committee especially encourages full panel proposals involving comparative history, such as Europe and the Americas, Europe and Africa, or Europa and Asia.

Panels should consist of two or three papers, a commentor, and a chair. Doctoral students, as well as faculty members and independent scholars are welcome to submit individual papers or panels. However, a panel should not consist exclusively of graduate students.

Individual paper submissions must include an abstract of approximately 250 words for each paper and a short (1-2 page) c.v. of each panelist. Submissions for full panels should include a 250-word abstract of each paper, a short c.v. from each participant, and a short (i.e. 250-500 words) description of the overarching topic or theme of the panel with a working title as well as the full name, affiliation, and email address of the panel organizer.

Proposals should be sent electronically to Howard Miller, Program Chair, at hdmiller@lipscomb.edu.

Proposals must be received by October 15, 2017 to be considered for the 2018 Program. Panelists must be current members of the European History Section of the Southern Historical Association at the time of the 2018 conference.
