Professor F.K. Lehman (F. K. L. U Chit Hlaing), renowned anthropologist and Asia scholar, wide-ranging expert on Burma and its peoples, passed away several days ago. He was professor emeritus at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Professor Lehman is being widely remembered and there are surely obituaries to come. A memorial website was set up at the Center for Burma Studies which he helped found, at Northern Illinois University. It can be found via http://go.niu.edu/Lehman, or directly here:

In addition, a volume of appreciations from students and others was published several years ago:

Frederic Kris Lehman (U Chit Hlaing): Anthropologist and Teacher. A collection of personal remembrances and reflections by some of his former students. Edited and with a preface by John Gatewood. Betlehem, Pennsylvania, USA: Printed at Lehigh University. © 2007 by John Gatewood. 77 pages.

It has been made available in PDF form at Prof. John Gatewood's website.

Sincerely, in sadness,
Magnus Fiskesjö
