CFP: Survival of Jews in Evacuation in the Soviet Union during the Holocaust for the 55th AJS Conference

Victoria Khiterer Discussion

I would like to organize a panel about the survival of Jews in evacuation in the Soviet Union during the Holocaust for the 55th AJS Conference, San Francisco, December 17-19, 2023. I am looking for a panel chair, two paper presenters and a panel respondent. The panel will discuss what factors affected the decisions of Jews to go to evacuation or stay in the places where they lived, what difficulties faced Jews in evacuation, whether Jews could continue their traditional religious and cultural life in evacuation, the obstacles that Jews encountered in their return from evacuation, anti-Semitism and difficulties in getting back their apartments and belongings after returning home. I am going to present my paper about the experiences of Kyivan Jews – Holocaust survivors, on the eve of the Nazi invasion of the Soviet Union, during their life in evacuation and after their return to Kyiv.  If you would like to participate in the panel, please contact me by email: victoria.khiterer@millersville.edu
