international conference “Central Asia and the World in the Era of Turbulence: challenges and opportunities”

Date: April 21, 2023

Venue: School of Politics and Law, Almaty Management University, Almaty, Kazakhstan

The escalation of international conflicts in post-Soviet Eurasia and beyond, crises threatening global stability in the largest economic centers, the consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic, and the looming threat of a worldwide climate catastrophe - all these factors have an impact on the situation in Central Asia. On the one hand, this situation can create a number of serious challenges for the region, including being drawn into the geopolitical confrontation between global centers of power, the negative consequences of economic recession and stagnation in the largest partners, new waves of epidemics and social instability in region, experiencing the shortage of water resources. At the same time, new opportunities arise for the region due to its prospects as an economic center of post-Soviet Eurasia, building alternative logistics between Asia and Europe, as well as due to serious change in the supply chains in the global and regional energy markets. The countries of Central Asia need to take into account not only their own experience but also the positive and negative experience of other countries and regions if they want to take full advantage of the above-mentioned opportunities.

We invite scholars whose works, devoted both directly to the situation in the Central Asian region, and to those problems of other countries and regions, whose experience is applicable to the situation in Central Asia. The list of possible topics (not exhaustive) includes:

- Integration processes;

- Migration;

- ethno-social and ethno-political conflicts and prospects for their settlement;

- post-colonial phenomena and processes;

- problems of regional security;

- international borders: image, resource and problem

- social consequences of climate change;

- international cooperation in the fight against epidemics.

- using best international management experience to solve the problems of Central Asian countries and best Central Asian management experience for other parts of the world.

Both experienced researchers and young scholars are invited to participate in the conference (we plan to organize a special section). When selecting applications, preference is given to high-quality papers that optimally correspond to the topics of the conferences, as well as fit into the structure of the organized panels. Proposals for organizing panels corresponding to the main theme are especially welcome.

The conference will take place in blended format, online participation is allowed.

Depending on the range of topics, the organisers may consider either facilitating collective efforts to apply for a special issue in some Scopus- or WoS-indexed journal or for an edited volume by a reputable publishing house, or launching online brief series on the AlmaU's website.
