Call for papers: Western History Dissertation Workshop

The 17th annual Western History Dissertation Workshop will be held May 18-19, 2023, at the University of Kansas in Lawrence. Five advanced western history Ph.D. students will be selected to present a chapter of their work to a collegial group of 10-12 leading scholars from participating institutions across the United States, listed below. Applicants who are most likely to benefit from this workshop are those who have completed a few chapters of their dissertation and who expect to defend sometime in 2023.

Imago Mundi: The International Journal for the History of Cartography gives advanced doctoral students the chance to publish an abstract of their dissertation. Louis Galambos National Fellowship/Deadline 2/1/2023

Louis Galambos National Fellowship in Business and Politics supports completion of exceptional dissertations for which the Hagley’s Library research materials constitute a significant source and that connect with the mission of the National Fellowship Program. The Galambos Fellow is expected to be in residence at Hagley for the fall and spring academic year.

IEHS George E. Pozzetta Dissertation Award

Application Due Date: December 31, 2022

The Immigration and Ethnic History Society presents two awards of $1,000 each to help graduate students with their dissertations on American immigration, emigration, or ethnic history, broadly defined. These awards are intended for students in the process of researching and writing their dissertations, and not for students completing and defending in 2023. For the 2023 award, the committee invites applications from any Ph.D. candidate who will have completed qualifying exams by 2022.
