Description:
Hopewell Culture National Historical Park was the former Mound City Group National Monument. It was originally founded under President Warren G. Harding in 1923, to preserve prehistoric mounds. It was given National Park status under a law that expanded the boundaries at Hopeton Earthworks, including 4 other sites. This archaeological site continues to research American Indian populations that lived in this region from 200 BCE - 500 CE.
