The 2018 Keyman Conference calls for papers that examine the state of ongoing transformation in education in Turkey. While education as an ideological tool to cultivate a national identity and a compliant and productive citizenry has long formed the core of educational research, less available are studies that focus on the institutional and cultural aspects of education. 

New textbook for those including Ottomans in early modern survey courses

I would like to plug a new early modern Europe textbook with a chapter by me on the Ottoman Empire. I hope it's of use to those of you who are teaching undergrad survey courses on early modern Europe and want to incorporate the Ottomans and the wider world in general.

Bountiful Empire: A History of Ottoman Cuisine

Dear H-Turk members, my new book Bountiful Empire: A History of Ottoman Cuisine has just been published in the U.K. by Reaktion Books. After examining the roots of Ottoman foodways and how they changed over time it is arranged thematically into chapters on subjects including cooks, travel food, military food, food trade and food laws, utensils and street food. There are 115 illustrations.
