H-Scholar is sponsored by the National Coalition of Independent Scholars. Margaret, thanks for the links and commentary. I often require books that haven't circulated in years. The silver lining of the streamlining trend, I have found, is that I've been able to expand my personal collection with many excellent former library books at rock-bottom prices over the last five or six years-- both scholarly books and beloved children's books (bookfinder.com finds the best deals). But on the whole I worry that libraries may be throwing out irreplaceable resources.
