QUERY: Five Commandments for Starting a Public History Program

On July 23, I will be co-leading a workshop for educators in China interested in starting a public history program at their home college or university.  As the founding director of a program that has been around for 28 years, I will share my experience.   But this is also a good opportunity for crowdsourcing.   Off the top of your head, please list (in any order) five things that you think are most important for getting a public history program off the ground.
