H-Public was created in 1994 by the National Council on Public History, an organization created in 1980 to encourage a broader interest in history and to bring together people, institutions, agencies, businesses, and academic programs with an interest in the field of public history. NCPH appoints the editors and advisory board that oversee H-Public.
