Were 1940s liberals or the Old Left precursors of the New Left?

I was stunned to learn, while reading Philip Wylie's A Generation of Vipers (1942), that Wylie evinced the same notiions that are common among New Leftists in America and their progeny. So I wrote an essay summing up the way that Wylie, like other 1940s liberals, vaguely or directly connected to the New Deal (such as Henry A. Murray, Talcott Parsons, Gordon Allport, Walter Langer) articulated opinions that stigmatized Republicans and conservatives.
