CfP: The Romani Atlantic
Romani people have been part of Atlantic circulations for over 500 years. Yet, scholars have rarely applied the circum-Atlantic frame in ways that illuminate the lived experiences of Romani people. This collection aims to enrich Romani history and Romani studies, as well as the scholarship of those regions that are a part of the Atlantic world, by considering the experiences of Romani people within an Atlantic context.

The Immigration and Ethnic History Society presents two awards of $1,000 each to help graduate students with their dissertations on American immigration, emigration, or ethnic history, broadly defined. These awards are intended for students in the process of researching and writing their dissertations, and not for students completing and defending in 2023. For the 2023 award, the committee invites applications from any Ph.D. candidate who will have completed qualifying exams by 2022.

We are looking for proposals for two chapters:
1. Voodoo death as a culture-bound syndrome in (African) popular culture(s): Nollywood, literature, media etc.
2. Cultural illnesses from Latin America: Locura, Mal de pelea, Nervios, Susto in popular culture: cartoons, telenovelas, media, films, literature etc.
