Re: Did Christian antisemitism play a role in the 20th century Holocaust?

Does anyone take 19th-century grand theories seriously any more? I would have thought that Karl Popper had demolished them in principle in The Poverty of Historicism. Take any theory, find facts that fit, ignore or explain away facts that don't, and you have a ready-made book. If you're practiced in that kind of stuff and can express it in academic language, you can write lots of books, get them published by respectable publishers, and become the darling of administrators looking for "productivity".

Did Christian antisemitism play a role in the 20th century Holocaust?

I recently read a short book by the Italian Trotskyist Enzo Traverso, that lays out an indictment of scientific racism and "bureaucratic rationality" in order to explain the Holocaust. In his zeal to indict the Enlightenment and science, Traverso eliminates the remnants of Christian antisemitism as contributing to antisemitic theorizing by European fascists.

Like other progressives, he seems to be emphasizing social engineering as the solution to conflict, discarding all discoveries that implicate heredity as inextricably intertwined with social factors.

You'll notice in your right side bar under H-Antisemitism Links a new item labeled List of Antisemitism Centers.

Obviously, it is incomplete. I have listed the ones I'm familiar with and are in my browser side bar file.

Please send additions for this list to me at menashe@mail.h-net.msu.edu with the subject line "AS Centers List", and in the format that I have set up in the that List so they can be included.

Anti-Semitism Erupts at Chicago Public School with 'Jew Incinerator' Game

The mother of a Jewish Chicago Public Schools (CPS) student tried for weeks to get the CPS to address the anti-Semitic bullying being perpetrated against her eighth grader, but little was done until the parent contacted local media. The bullying got so bad that kids had joined an online game with a team called the "Jew Incinerators."
