The New York State Labor History Association is proud to announce that the 2016 Barbara Wertheimer Prize is being awarded to Luke Mielke for his Macalester University American Studies Honors thesis, “Racial Uplift in a Jim Crow Local: Black Union Organizing in Minneapolis Hotels, 1930-1930. His thesis was directed by Duchess Harris. The Committee was very impressed with the original way Luke defined his topic and with his sophisticated handling of the primary records. His thesis was also well-written.
