The Royal Irish Academy is celebrating the 250th anniversary of the birth of Maria Edgeworth (1768–1849), Ireland’s first important woman writer and also one of the RIA’s first female honorary members.

This event will open with a talk on Edgeworth’s significance by Claire Connolly MRIA, School of English, UCC; a cultural historian of eighteenth- and nineteenth-century Ireland.

Margaret Kelleher, Professor and Chair of Anglo-Irish Literature and Drama at UCD, will chair a panel of Irish women writers who will all be celebrating Edgeworth's legacy:

Dáil Éireann: the first 100 years, 1919–2019

This one-day conference, produced in partnership with the Houses of the Oireachtas, is being held to mark the 100th anniversary of Dáil Éireann.
