We seek articles for an essay collection on the history of alcohol, drugs, tobacco, and pharmaceuticals in Canada, with a special emphasis upon the manufacture, consumption, and regulation of specific substances. The collection shall be edited by Cheryl Warsh and Dan Malleck, and published by UBC Press as a contribution to the Histories of Substance series.
Papers may be by Canadian scholars or on Canadian topics (or both.) Essays should be no longer that 10,000 words with notes, and references in endnotes using Chicago/Turabian format.
Abstracts of papers, individual proposals, and/or panel proposals dealing with any topics at the intersections of rhetoric, composition and American or popular culture are welcome for the 2017 PCA/ACA National Conference.

It also welcomes special editions from interested guest editors from around the world. The blind review process of submissions takes between 2 and 3 months. Ultimately, the journal publishes articles that reflect best practices in the field of African Studies and at the same time engage in conversation with contemporary scholarly issues around the world.
