The Central European History Society (CEHS) solicits nominations for the biennial Annelise Thimme Article Prize. This prize recognizes the best English-language article or essay on Central European history written by a North American scholar. This year’s competition is for works published in 2021 or 2022. Nominations can be made by authors, editors, presses, or third parties.

We are looking for papers for one or more sessions under the broad title, “Disability in the Early Modern Mediterranean World,” for the Sixteenth Century Studies Conference, to be held in Baltimore, MD in October, 2023.
The Société Française d’Etudes Victoriennes et Edouardiennes will host its annual meeting in January 2024 at CY Cergy Paris University, organised by Prof. Catherine Marshall (AGORA research centre) in partnership with Dr. Emily Jones (the University of Manchester), Prof. Miles Taylor (the Humboldt Universität in Berlin) and Prof. Seamus Perry (Balliol College, Oxford).
The Central European History Society (CEHS) is pleased to solicit nominations for the Hans Rosenberg Book Prize. This annual prize honors the best monograph in Central European history published in English by a North American scholar. This year’s award is restricted to books with an imprint of 2022. "Central European history" is understood to include all German-speaking countries as well as areas previously included within the Habsburg monarchy.

Abstract: The abolition of slavery in Algeria took place in four steps: 1. the abolition of enslavement of white Europeans in 1816; 2. the first decree of abolition of slavery after the 1848 second revolution in France; 3. the 1906 decree of abolition of slavery in the southern territories; 4. the independence of Algeria, when any form of exploitation was outlawed.
