On Thursday and Friday, April 20-21, the Yale Center for British Art is holding an online symposium dedicated to the work of Isokon Ltd.
The symposium is open to the public and presented via Zoom.
An hour-long keynote conversation on April 20 will be followed by a series of panels on the April 21.
The Centre for History of the University of Lisbon (Uses of the Past Research Group) promotes the 2nd Online Conference Cycle: Gender and Sexuality in Greek Mythology (May 2-16, 2023, 5pm GMT). This second edition is coordinated by Nuno Simões Rodrigues and Joana Pinto Salvador Costa. The working languages will be Portuguese and Spanhish. In Hamlet’s soliloquy, the phrase “undiscovered country” refers to “death, The undiscovered country, from whose bourn / No traveler returns.” In this light, the phrase speaks to the urgency of global climate change as the earth passes benchmarks on the way to “irreversible” transformation, making significant parts of the globe uninhabitable by humans and other species.
The Latin American and Caribbean Section of the Southern Historical Association invites submissions for our three awards: the Murdo J. Macleod Book Prize, the Kimberley Hanger Article Prize, and the Richmond Brown Dissertations Prize. These are awarded each year for the best book, paper, and dissertation published on Latin America, the Atlantic World, the Borderlands, and the Caribbean, with an open time frame of study. The book, prize, or dissertation itself must have been published between January 1, 2022, and December 31, 2022.
Printing is one of the most important innovations for the history of Europe. It accelerated the reproducibility of knowledge and promoted the emergence of the transnational book trade. Traditionally, a North-South transfer of technical know-how inherent to the printing press has been contrasted with a South-North transfer of the humanistic tradition. Rather, this conference will reflect on mutual reciprocity and interdependence.
