It is well documented in recent scholarship that densely urbanized and politically decentralized regions such as the pre-industrial Low Countries were the scene of vibrant inter-city competition (‘t Hart & van der Heijden 2009; Blockmans 2010). This competition could take on many different shapes: towns tried to surpass their neighbor towns by constructing higher cathedrals, higher belfries or more impressive city halls built in the latest fashion.

The Scandinavian and German-speaking countries have had a rich literary relationship for centuries, including today. Certainly geographic proximity, linguistics affinities and cultural similarities are core components of this relationship, yet there are also doubtless many other impulses for German-speaking and Scandinavian writers to engage with each other and their works.
Nigerian Journal of the Humanities, the journal of the Faculty of Arts, University of Benin, Benin City, Nigeria, published since 1977, is currently receiving papers for publication in Volume 21 (2015). Hodges case represents a critical moment in the ‘normalization’ of behaviours and orientations that would qualify to be called countermores, after Lasswell and Kaplan.
