Background
Anthropologists reside, work and conduct field work all around the world, and mobility is at the very core of our endeavour. As such, we are the largest global community of social researchers, and we have the largest global, social and cultural reach of any of the social sciences.
However, with the spread of the coronavirus COVID-19 and consequent mobility restrictions – for us as well as for most communities across the globe – our physical presence has been drastically limited both at home, and with respect to the ‘field’ where we do our fieldwork.
The Journal of Interdisciplinary History of Ideas (JIHI, http://www.jihi.eu) launches a call for papers on
EPIDEMICS AND REGULATIONS IN THE HISTORY OF IDEAS AND INTELLECTUAL HISTORY
The JIHI publishes high-quality original works by scholars of different fields of specialization, based on interdisciplinary historical research. Its aim is to provide a publishing space for studies dealing with the history of ideas and intellectual history, broadly construed, from a genuinely interdisciplinary research perspective.
The modern State has always handled large quantities of data. Post the so-called ‘digital turn’, the ways in which data has been collected, stored and used by the state and other actors have transformed drastically. Increasingly, the modern state has entered into a multi-faceted relationship with different forms of digital media and big data. Moreover, state and the markets collaborate and collude to create and capture data that seem to have serious and far-reaching implications on individual privacy and autonomy.
