The Freer Gallery of Art and Arthur M. Sackler Gallery, which together form the Smithsonian’s National Museum of Asian Art, seek a full-time curator for Japanese objects. “Objects” are defined as pre-modern, modern, and contemporary ceramics, pre-modern, modern and contemporary lacquer ware, modern and contemporary metalwork, which together number over 3000 works.

Various television programs, books and magazines have discussed other cultures arriving in North America before Columbus. Archaeological evidence has confirmed that Vikings settled in North America in the 11th century, but other theories regarding pre-Columbian voyages to North America lack mainstream acceptance. This lack of evidence has not stopped popular television programs and books from speculating and asserting their own pre-Columbian contact theories.
This series of seminars aims to address historical issues of privacy in Latin America, in Europe, and transregionally. Each month, one of the participants will present a work-in-progress, which will be circulated in advance and discussed online via zoom. Since 2003, the Roosevelt Institute for American Studies, has organized regular seminars for doctoral students pursuing research in its areas of interest. Due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, our next research seminar will be held online, on 2-4 December 2020. We kindly invite applications from current doctoral candidates whose research covers any aspect of U.S. culture, society, politics, or foreign relations, current or historical.
