Empires: Towards a Global History

The proposed conference is premised on the idea that empires drew their strength from a global systemic architecture of hegemony and dominance.  The objective of the conference is designed to emphasize how imperial interactions served to reinforce empires within their global scaffolding. “Towards a Global History of Empires” seeks to delineate different strands and interconnected themes that explain both empires’ persistence as well as their mutations over time.

The themes that we propose for the conference shall include:

I am forming a panel for the Western History Association Conference, October 17-20, 2018, in San Antonio, Texas.  I need one more presenter and a chair/commenter.  My paper is on General Henry Ware Lawton and how his expedition to capture Geronimo influenced his tactics in the Philippine-American War.  The other confirmed paper is on the US Army's use of "Radio Tractor Units" on the Mexican border, 1917-1919.  All papers have to relate to the American West, and the third presenter for our panel needs to fit with the two papers already confirmed to make a coherent whole.  The Call for Papers
