The Qur'ān represents the focal point of Islam. Many studies have looked at its texts, meanings and interpretation. Yet, its transmission and historical development remains hitherto understudied. Recent studies have examined the relationship between the Qur'ān and its multiple modes of of recitation, critically examining the notions of aḥruf and qiraʿāt. Other works have focussed on the question of tawātur in relation to these variences.
