Historical dialogue is a growing field of scholarship and practice that engages with the legacy of historical violence and its ties to contemporary politics. It is informed by the recognition that many contemporary conflicts germinate from the memory of past violence, and it is particularly pertinent for the field of conflict transformation and prevention in conflict and post-conflict societies.
This special session investigates the function of memory in U.S. visual culture, tracing political significance of remembering particular historical events in a contemporary moment.
The MLA forum Literatures of the United States in Languages Other Than English has posted its call for papers. The MLA 2018 conference will be in New York, NY. The title for our forum is "Cultures Claiming Writers" and we seek papers that address the following question: What claims do national and international cultural institutions make on U.S. writers who write in languages other than English?
