Guadalupe Mountains National Park Created

Federal protection of the Guadalupe Mountain range became a reality with a 6,000 acre donation from Wallace Pratt (that included the McKittrick Canyon). The federal government proceeded to buy approximately 80,000 acres from J. C. Hunter, and Jr. Guadalupe Mountain National Park opened soon after.
