Sam Hanks Holmes, born Breathitt, Kentucky 1810. Photo from family photos shows in elder years after moving to Kansas with his family. Shown are his Daughter Ann Holmes-Maloney also born in Ky. His grandaughter, Elizabeth Maloney-Hillis/Feighner settled in Colorado.
Samuel served in 1863 as US Postmaster for Breathitt during the Civil War and is shown in Federal Census as a Farmer for his occupation.
Unconfirmed facts about his life remain; among those not presently known to this research is the location of his burial, reported to be in Eureka Springs area of Arkansas in 1895.
