Perhaps H-Sports members would be interested in an article I published on (postcolonialist.com) about the protests leading up to this year´s World Cup. The text offers an unique view on what has been happening in Brazil, a different perspective than what international media outlets of all stripes have produced. I think the World Cup offers an instructive example of the intersection of (neo-)colonialism, race, class, and sports. I'm thinking of issues around dispossession (esp. land), health, resource distribution, and forms of protest, and the way that some of these issues have made it into mainstream media and others haven't.
