This review has been making the rounds on a number of our networks. A quick search of our network archive suggests that this subject -- smallpox in the general population as well as among indigenous peoples -- is relatively unexplored in our group since David Arnold's review in 2000 of Robert Boyd's The Coming of the Spirit of Pestilence: Introduced Infectious Diseases and Population Decline among Northwest Coast Indians, 1774-1874.
