Re: ISSF Policy Series: The “Global Order” Myth

I agree with Tom Maddux and to a substantial degree with Elliott Abrams' Foreign Affairs article "Trump the Traditionalist?". There remains a major caveat, however.  Donald Trump's personal traits, his unfamiliarity with issues, his apparent unwillingness or inability to master the most important topics, and a habit of contradicting his own administration's policies could lead to dangerous or unintended outcomes in the event of a major foreign policy crisis.

Re: ISSF Policy Series: The “Global Order” Myth

I enjoyed reading Professor Andrew Bacevich's essay on President Donald Trump and the Global Order. I do question whether Trump is moving to break with past U.S. policy despite his rhetoric. As Bacevich notes, Trump has exhibited little sense of understanding U.S. policy since 1945 or little evidence of a willingness to study it. Trump wants to be the center of attention; witness his performances at several international meetings, sit-downs with world leaders, etc.
