Deadline Extended-SHEAR Dissertation Prize

Deadline for submissions for the SHEAR Dissertation Prize extended to Friday, February 17 (postmark date).

The Society for Historians of the Early American Republic invites submissions for the SHEAR Dissertation Prize. The Prize will be awarded to an exceptional dissertation pertaining to the history of North America from 1776 to 1861. Within that period, the dissertation may treat virtually any aspect of history, including political, social, cultural, or literary history.

Call for Proposals: Arnstein Prize for Dissertation Research

Graduate students in the fields of literature, history, art history, and musicology are invited to apply to the Walter L. Arnstein Prize for Dissertation Research in Victorian Studies.  The deadline is February 1st, 2017.

Awards: UHA Michael Katz Award for Best Dissertation in Urban History in 2016 (deadline 15 April 2017)

Michael Katz Award for Best Dissertation in Urban History completed in 2016 (no geographic restriction): The UHA will award a prize of $350 for the best dissertation in urban history with a completion date in 2016. To be considered, please submit three (3) copies of the dissertation, each containing information on where and when completed. All materials must be received by April 15, 2017.

Dissertations must be submitted by email as attachments in PDF format. Submit one copy of the dissertation to each member of the Katz Award committee:

REMINDER> 5th Competition for the Stanley Weinstein Dissertation Prize

The Council on East Asian Studies at Yale University is pleased to announce the fifth competition for the Stanley Weinstein Dissertation Prize, honoring Professor Weinstein’s many contributions to the study of East Asian Buddhism in North America.  The prize will be awarded once every two years to the best Ph.D. dissertation on East Asian Buddhism written in North America during the two previous years.  The dissertation must be based on original research in the primary languages and should significantly advance our understanding of East Asian Buddhism.

Please spread the word about the new John D'Emilio LGBTQ History Dissertation Prize, named for a pioneer in LGBTQ History. The prize will be given annually to the best PhD dissertation in U.S. LGBTQ history and the OAH is accepting submissions now. 

Please encourage those who completed dissertations between July 1, 2015 and June 30, 2016 to apply for this prize no later than October 3, 2016.
