These days the word "craft" gets attached to a lot—from cocktails to crochet, 3D printing to upcycled t-shirts, handmade paper to handmade pickles. And this trend only appears to be growing as craft is closely connected to the DIY movement: a wide-ranging, ever-expanding, and sometimes controversial field of work and play.

CFP: Proposals Deadline: January 9, 2014, for papers on Visual and Expressive Culture at ECAS, Paris (July 2015)

The Sixth European Conference on African Studies (ECAS-6) will take place in Paris 8-10 July 2015 at the Sorbonne.
Co-organisers are IMAF (Institut des mondes africains) and LAM (Les Afriques dans le monde).
The principal theme of ECAS 6 is Collective Mobilisations in Africa: Contestation, Resistance, Revolt.

Alongside the conference, delegates will be invited to take part in a week of Paris-wide cultural events focusing on the work of musicians, writers, visual and new media artists, performers and poets hailing from Africa and the diaspora.
