Tao Wang's H-Diplo review of Mao Lin's article “More Than a Tacit Alliance: Trade, Soft Power and U.S.- Chinese Rapprochement Reconsidered” from the Journal of American East Asian Relations https://networks.h-net.org/system/files/contributed-files/ar735.pdf stated that according to Mao Lin's article, Lyndon Johnson's administration "decided to supplement the containment of China with 'free flow of ideas and people and goods' to moderate China’s radical diplomacy and draw China toward the West (54).
