ANN: Helmut Rumpler 1935-2018

Helmut Rumpler, Professor Emeritus for Modern and Austrian History at the University of Klagenfurt and Member of the Austrian Academy of Sciences, died in early February at the age of 82. Rumpler, a native of Vienna, was professor in Klagenfurt from 1975 until 2003. For many years he headed the Austrian Academy's Commission for the History of the Habsburg Monarchy and was until his death editor of the multi-volume series "Die Habsburgermonarchie 1848-1918", published by the Commission and since 2013 by its successor, the Institute for Modern and Contemporary Historical Research.

Co-organizers Natalia Aleksiun (Touro Graduate School), Halina Goldberg (Indiana University), and Nancy Sinkoff (Rutgers University) are pleased to announce the 5th Annual Polish Jewish Studies Workshop, “Centering the Periphery: Polish Jewish Cultural Production Beyond the Capital,” which will be held March 5-6, 2018 at Rutgers University—the State University of New Jersey, New Brunswick.

New Journal: Journal of Austrian-American History now available on JSTOR

The Botstiber Institute for Austrian-American Studies is pleased to announce the publication of a new journal examining the historic relationship between Austria and the United States. The Journal of Austrian-American History is an open-access, peer-reviewed journal across the disciplines of history, political science, economics, law, and cultural studies. The JAAH is edited by Dr. Kristina Poznan.
