IN THE MIDDLE. Recreating the Middle Ages in popular culture


Hosted by the Institute for Medieval Studies (IEM-NOVA FCSH), this international conference seeks to highlight the continuous dialogue between the Middle Ages and the post-medieval world, and explore the ways, methods and motivations in which the medieval period has been imagined, invoked, re-lived, and refashioned in contemporary popular culture:

  • Medievalism in the Arts
  • Contemporary literature and the Middle Ages
  • Medieval representation in festivals and fairs
  • Uses of Middle Ages in film and television
  • Medievalism and contemporary music
  • Medieval imagery in the gaming industry and community

 

Please send your title and abstract proposal (between 250-300 words), in English, Portuguese or Spanish, together with a short-bio note (150 words), name and contact details to: medievallyspeaking@gmail.com
